Travel Boudoir Session in Alaska with Miss B - Destination Boudoir Photographer

Travel Boudoir Session in Alaska

With Miss B

Travel & Destination Boudoir Photographer

There’s two things you should know about Alaska:

1: Their state bird is the mosquito

2: Their potholes have potholes, and you’ll laugh at iowa potholes once you drive in Alaska

Alaska was a really big deal for me, and still is, for a lot of reasons. For starters, this was my first ever time traveling solo. The start was a bit hectic I will admit! When I first showed up to the airport, there was no one checking bags for Alaska so I had to bring my big luggage case through TSA. It resulted in me having to give up my favorite knife and my shampoo, but I told them to take whatever they needed so I could catch my plane.

As a photographer, I was horrified when they removed all of my equipment from my bag one at a time, but in the end I did make my flight! I forgot snacks, and didn’t have time to grab water, so my wait for the attendants to bring water by felt like actual years. After I got two glasses of water in me, I got comfy but was antsy the entire flight, unable to relax at all. I felt giddy with anticipation and didn’t want to miss one moment in the air.

Airplanes feel magical to me. They always did as a kid, and even more so as an adult. You literally leave your problems on earth as you sore through the sky at 500+ miles per hour, with pretty much no way of contacting the outside world. It’s an amazing time for reflection, manifestation, and reality shifting. “I intend to shift to my best possible timeline” was on repeat in my head as I watched the clouds race past, and I had no idea what to expect when I got to Alaska.

My client ended up having her friend pick me up from the airport so I wouldn’t need to Uber, and I was so thankful for the immediate welcome to Fairbanks I received. My homesickness really hit me full force on the ride to the cabin, and I struggled to hold back tears as I thought about everything and everyone back in iowa that I missed.

When I got to the cabin, I was treated by one of the most amazing and incredible dogs I’ve ever met: Sasha. Tears were impossible after meeting her. Her cuddles, smiles, and groans were the highlight of my week. She was our trusted guard dog on our hikes, and she showed it too. For real, I wanted to steal her and take her home!

Alaska tested me in so many ways. It tested my tolerance of bugs, sunshine (the sun never set!), as well as physical strength. I feel like I’ve come home a new and improved version of myself. A version who not only doesn’t mind alone time with myself, but looks forward to it. A version of myself who longs to walk in nature, no longer as scared of bugs as I used to be. I wouldn’t say my fear was extreme, but it was stopping me from enjoying nature how I wanted. I came home with scrapes, bumps, bruises and bug bites to show from my experience, and it was worth every single one.

The first hike we did was to a glacier that I had only seen photos of during winter. We started on the wrong side (the side you walk for winter) so we soon realized we needed to double back and walk along the other side of the glacier runoff. We came along a lot of other people, but were able to be sneaky for photos *almost* every single time!

The only time we got caught was near the end, when it was actually ME who was washing off my clothes after falling inside of the glacier and being covered in mud. And OH MY GOD was that water cold!! I was lucky enough to get caught by two older women, but they just used it as a water break and didn’t even give us any weird looks as we passed. I’m guessing it must be normal there for people to get naked in glacier runoff water or something?

The second photo location was the cabin, but… those are too spicy to share! Sorry, not sorry!

After that, our next destination was the Chena Hot Springs. We walked around and visited gift shops, then saw the ice museum. It was so cold, but such a blast! I had an apple martini in a glass made completely of ice! The tradition was once you are done, you take your cup outside and smash it. If it completely shatters, your wish comes true! Obviously mine did because I went all hulk on it.

After going back to the cabin to shower, we got ready for the Midnight Sun Festival. When Miss B originally told me about it, I knew I had to schedule the Alaska session around this event!! Fairbanks holds an amazing festival on Summer Solstice, and because it’s the longest day of the year it was midnight and the sun was still shining. I had the most incredible time, got the most incredible gifts for myself and loved ones back home, and met so many amazing people i will never forget. I also had the most incredible street tacos I’ve ever had!

After that, I had a couple of days on my own since my client was working. I visited the local sex shop (I always love to do this when I travel!) and got some rope and pasties to use for our last session we had planned! Obviously it turned out amazing, but you gotta wait because I’m not there yet, mmmkay?

I decided to take a riverboat discovery tour on the Chena River and get the full tourist experience, and I’m so glad I did! I got to enjoy time on a massive boat, learned about the history of Fairbanks, and visited the Chena village where I got to learn about the native culture, see reindeer and meet retired mush dogs. And as if that wasn’t cool enough, I had someone recognize me from TikTok and they said I helped give them the confidence to do her own boudoir session. I legit almost cried! She totally made my day, and reminded me that even when I don’t think I make an impact, I do. Even when I don’t know it. I’m happy to say that day I made a new friend!

Our last hike was the Angel Rocks, and that was probably the most physically intense hike I have ever done. At 3.5 miles long with an elevation climb of 900+ feet, I was on the verge of passing out a couple of times. I felt so out of shape! But I pushed myself past the brink of giving up so many times and I felt like I could accomplish just about ANYTHING by the time we were done.

On this hike, along with getting amaaaazing photos of Miss B, she got some photos of me too. The entire time she was moving to get different angles, hooting and hollering at me, and making me feel so empowered. It was life-changing. Miss B made me feel exactly how I imagine I make my clients feel, and as I saw this photo and couldn’t find one single thing to criticize about myself, I cried. I cried happy tears. I couldn’t believe it was me, that I got to have that experience. On the top of a mountain at that! I will never be able to put into words how this experience made me feel, but I will forever be changed by it.

On our way back, we got more photos of Miss B in a creek, and when I tell you my jaw DROPPED when I saw these photos!! It’s totally giving river goddess vibes for sure!

That was my last day there, but we weren’t done yet. Once I finished getting packed up and cleaned up, I got to work tying up Miss B in a beautiful pentagram rope harness (my first ever shibari I did myself!) and did some last photos in the bay window of the cabin. The underwear was actually used in her first session, and I loved seeing it come back for another round! This was the perfect way to end a week in Alaska, and I already can’t wait to come back for another session. I am DYING to visit Anchorage, so if you wanna do a session there and get a nice deal holler at me!
