I aspire to surround myself with strong motivated women, and when I first met Shae that was the first impression I got from her. In business, things change, schedules change, and hell- change is amazing here at Boudoir by Lexy! There’s always risk, but when I decided to find someone with more weekend availability for my clients, I desperately wanted someone who was incredible with bold looks.
The first time we met Shae, she did makeup for a shibari-themed photoshoot I had been dreaming up for quite some time! She was so full of amazing energy and vibes, I knew right away she was perfect for the Boudie Team. When considering makeup artists, skill is the biggest thing I look for. However, the second most important thing I look for is an awesome personality that vibes well with clients. It’s not just hair and makeup, it’s the first step getting clients into their headspace for their session! Shae is SO amazing at making each and every client feel like royalty and I always look forward to seeing them get along so well!
The first ever time we got together, Shae was the only person Kasie and I weren’t already friends with. To help us all loosen up and bond, we broke out the tequila! It was so much fun!
Get to Know Shae!
“My name is Shae Beard,
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois. I grew up in Hoffman Estates, and I have attended Everest College in downtown Chicago for Dental Assisting in 2011. Later in my adult life, I relocated here to Waterloo, IA, where I started to find myself intrigued by makeup.
I have never used to wear makeup until I became pregnant with my son. During my 2nd trimester, I started breaking out horribly, and I tried almost everything to clear my skin but nothing worked fast enough. After that, I started using makeup to cover up my blemishes.
As time went on, I became more self-conscious about my acne, and I would pay other people to do my makeup, but they would always have trouble matching my skin tone correctly, and I would still have to come home and try to fix it. I got frustrated with wasting my money, and I figured that I might as well learn how to apply my makeup the way I want.
I started watching YouTube videos and practicing all the time! I also started reading up on skincare products and makeup brands that were friendly to my sensitive skin, and I started investing time and money into commodities. Eventually, I began to see my hard work pay off. I was happy with the way my face turned out, and I just got better over the years. I started getting compliments when I would be out. Usually, people would ask me if I do makeup, so I started practicing on friends and family.
Fast-forward three years later, I started taking my makeup seriously. I started focusing on the possibilities of turning it into a career that could be beneficial for me throughout my life, and just different things or tools I could use to come up with different looks to express myself. I decided that I wanted to help other people feel confident as well! It was then that I started taking clients professionally.
In 2019 I worked for Mac cosmetics through a third-party store where I was able to receive some professional training and apply that to what I already know and later chose to venture out on my own. I enjoy lifting people's spirits and enhancing my client's beauty; it makes me happy knowing that my work is profoundly impacting my clients. Overall, I specialize in natural, soft, and dramatic makeup applications- all hand applied!”
